What I’m doing now
I’m in Singapore, preparing for 2017, on the very last day of the year (2016).
A few days ago, I wrote about reflections on 2016, and going on to 2017: Sixteen, Going On Seventeen.
Then, I listed the 4 ‘C’s I was going to work on – to close the year.
Now, I’m racing to complete, or to be complete with, things that are important to me – before the year ends in my current timezone. That’s about 12 hours away from this very moment I’m publishing.
You know what crossed my mind? Hopping on a flight to San Francisco this evening – so that I will have just over 24 hours to complete everything I want to complete; and be in one of my favourite places in the world – before the clock strikes 12.
That’s how much I want to complete things. But it’s not an easy choice to make, with wife, two young kids, and meetings with dear friends tomorrow. Last-minute airfare notwithstanding. [For $1.5k, SQ leaves Singapore at 1830 hours today, and arrives in San Francisco at 1940 on December 31, 2016 – how’s that for racing against time?]
Since I’m not going to do that, I’m going to be realistic about what I will complete today:
- Get to ‘Inbox-Zero’
- Send short messages / emails to people who I think – are expecting to hear from me by end of the year; and address any missed deadlines, unfulfilled expectations
- Post my version of James Clear’s “Integrity Report” (www.jamesclear.com/integrity)
- Say my thank-you’s to some people who’ve made 2016 unique for me
- Prepare for my 28-day fast in January… I’m going on a 28-day vegan fast; completing a 5-day health detox; complete another round of ‘decluttering’ (my already sufficiently-minimalist home); abstain from reading online news and friends’ updates on Facebook (and other forms of ‘social media’)
Derek Sivers created a pretty awesome concept – the ‘Now Page’: https://sivers.org/now
This is my ‘quick-and-dirty’ version of the ‘Now Page’. I may follow the convention he has created – and publish my ‘Now Pages’ on my personal website. Or, I may simply keep a record on Medium. Let’s see…
