Understanding The Game
* Written in January, but forgotten until now.
Since a severe ligament pull, three months ago, while playing ultimate Frisbee — I’ve not been back on the field. I am also still recovering from an injury to the finger that I would use to flick the disc.
But today, I decided to join today, despite a tender sensation where my injuries were.
I went to the game — telling myself that I can learn to compete, despite my constraints.
And something happened today, that doesn’t always happen; and very much unexpectedly, considering my recent injury. I played really really well (by my own standards).
That’s when I more profoundly understood — a principle by which I am committed to live — I am not the sum of my constraints, or my past faults. And neither are others.
The time away from the field also thought me a valuable lesson — that when you spend time away from the game, you may lose some of your skill… but you lose far more of your baggage.
