The reward of showing up for yourself
This morning, I got up at 6 am and headed right into the city to host Type-A Breakfast, Melbourne.
Nobody showed up.
There were 5 who registered for this morning’s session, but only one person at the table – me. It was raining this morning, but by now, I know not to take comfort in that fact… because I’ve had total no-shows in the past… even on sunny days.
Incredibly ironic – considering I started Type-A Breakfast in Melbourne… yet the sessions outside Australia (in Singapore, Bangkok etc.) are better attended than the one here!
I’m only writing this now (for current and future Type-A Breakfast organizers) because of two reasons:
- I know it’s not insanity – to keep organizing Type-A Breakfast sessions even when there are frequent no-shows. It’s designed to work – even if only one person (the host/organizer) shows up to participate.
- I read this statement by James Clear, and think it’s a great reminder for all Type-A Breakfast organizers out there:
The ability to show up everyday, stick to the schedule, and do the work – especially when you don’t feel like it – is so valuable that it is literally all you need to become better 99% of the time… (Complete Article by James Clear)
Even when… or perhaps especially when you’ve got a no-show – you are… we are… creating a discipline in our lives that will remain incredibly valuable.
That said. I might need to find a new venue, or city to have more fun with this project.
