Stalling 8… 9… This is your life. What do you do?
I had the disc (frisbee) in my possession today on the field. And an opponent was stalling me.
In the game of Ultimate, you have 10 distinct counts to make a successful pass.
If you fail to do so, you lose possession of the disc. And so there can be significant anxiety when you hear the numbers rapidly go beyond 1, 2, 3… approaching 8… 9… 10…
But at that moment, I chose not to be anxious.
There was no clear opening for me… from the moment I gained possession of the disc until I heard the count come towards an end.
But on 9, when the opponent thought his job was done, there was an opening.
I threw. We scored.
In life, we don’t get such clear indications. It can often feel like a lifetime of 8's or 9's.
But victory is not found in losing it at 8. It is found when scoring before 10.
Therefore, do not be anxious. Never be anxious.
