On Making ‘Happy’ Happen
My life is not about making myself happy.
I’ve found that some of my greatest personal gains and growth have been inversely correlated with experiences of being happy, or from getting what I thought I wanted.
Therefore, my life is also not about making others happy.
It is simply about having things work.
And if things don’t work, I can simply move on to something (else) that I can work on. Or have someone else work on it — if they believe it’s worth their time, energy and life.
Since it is my responsibility to be satisfied, it is also the responsibility of others — to be satisfied.
Background
I wrote this (what you see above), a few weeks ago, after a time of personal reflection.
This has enabled me to distinguish how — in attempt to be ‘good’ and ‘kind’ — I’ve sought to focus on the happiness of specific individuals, while causing unwarranted pain to others whose well-being come are impacted as a result.
And all for what? For the insatiable pursuit of happiness that others may be on. I am done.
Footnote to my children
If you don’t eat wholesome foods, and if you don’t pursue excellence in all you do, I won’t be happy. But more importantly — it won’t work.
