Hashjacking is probably what happens when you try to have the world join in your event (virtually) – only to find everyone lost in a sea of hashtags.

The Institute of Advertising (IAS) Singapore held its ‘Hall of Fame 2016’ awards night yesterday.

When I searched Twitter for news on the awards won, I found my feed filled with with stories about:

  1. A Christian youth group weekend retreat
  2. ECG High School’s basketball coach
  3. Regular news from @hof2016 – a fashion blogger

and more…

3 different events, 3 different places around the world, all happening around the same time.

And because the 3 news sources don’t use a secondary hashtag, it must be confusing…assuming people are following.
