Do the 7:30 am ‘Side-hustle’ here

Crazy, unreasonable entrepreneurs — we’re doing this for you…

This morning, I was reminded of another reason we insist on starting at 7:30 am on Monday mornings.

A couple of new members showed up at Type-A Breakfast in Melbourne today…

One was working on his day-job responsibilities; and he felt that with 30 mins more, he was on track to finish all his day’s work by 10 am. Mission accomplished!

The other shared that he was working on a side-project — a new business. He told us that he allocated 5 hours / week to working on this side-business, and he came to Type-A Breakfast to speed up his progress.

And it was awesome to hear that.

Over the last few months, we (some of the organizers) have been approached by co-working spaces, and companies — to host Type-A Breakfast sessions in their offices. Their constraint —we had to start at 8 or 8:30 am (instead of 7:30 am).

The reasons include:

  • Centralized air-conditioning meant that the space would be stuffy / hot at 7:30 am
  • Their members / employees may not wake up early enough to participate at 7:30 am

While the organizing team would love to have Type-A Breakfast sessions spread to more venues (and at a faster rate) we’re still reluctant to start any later than 7:30 am.

Why?

Because a 7:30 am start-time is an awesome filtering mechanism. It takes a crazy level of commitment, and a kind of ‘Type-A’ behavior to get up early enough on a Monday morning to do the work that we do.

But this morning, I was reminded of another reason. Or rather — I was reminded of another person…

That’s the one who has a day-job, but who aspires to create impact in another area of his/her life. And so — is working on a side-project / side-business outside the ‘regular office hours’.

By starting at 7:30 am— we empower him/her to get a significant amount of progress, before he/she has to turn up in the office on Monday morning (presumably at an acceptable 9:45 am.)

So if you’re one of those with a ‘Side-hustle’, we’re sticking to guns, and for you — we are turning down opportunities to hold more Type-A Breakfast sessions.
