Day 5. Nobody’s reading.

Thousands of readers for my article on how frequent travellers can save money on multiple SIM cards. But no ones reading my thumb-typed public report on my January ‘de-clutter’ goals.

But for some reading. Be it vanity. Or the sheer draw of of public accountability… I’m writing this at the end of an packed day, and other incomplete tasks.

Here’s the original challenge (for January): https://medium.com/@melvinyuan/clutter-2e928005c10c?source=linkShare-f876791df90b-1483630908

So let’s go:

  • Physiological/Health: 1 Flat White, 1 Coconut, 3 Bananas, Substantial amount of mushrooms and soup (my team dinner was at a hot pot buffet). On hindsight, I ate more than I really needed. But I stuck to my – no meats, no sweets, no alcohol commitment. Fair performance.
  • Material: Gonna toss something into the bin, or the ‘temp’ bin after this (see Day 3's entry).
  • Mental: Day 5 without Facebook, and mindless acceptance of online news. Also – a noticeable increase in alertness during my fast… until I had too much soup and mushrooms during hot pot dinner. I need to think of something I can do – instead of eating – while at a social event (i.e. group dinner).
  • Relationships – same as yesterday.

Done.

I was just reflecting on this – those who commit to continual public journaling (blogging) learn to go on, even when there’s no one reading, even when no one seems to find it useful.

There’s something about learned persistence that I want to examine – in this experience of mine (I committed to blogging 365 days this year).
