Day 3. The Constant Search for Distraction.

Not the emergence of distraction, but the pursuit of it.

I had a productive day.

Stuck to my vegan fast. Abstained from all Social and Online News. Completed everything I wanted to do.

Daily (De-clutter) Report:

  • Physiological / Health: 3 Coconuts, 1 Naan. Didn’t feel any lack in energy. Spent some energy dealing with hunger pangs, and a whet appetite (from 3 days of going without meat, sugar, snacks and savoury food).
  • Material: Threw a couple more items away.
  • Mental: Day 3 without Facebook, social and online news.
  • Relationships: I don’t really have goals in this area. And I realise why… I completely forgot about my “Integrity Assignment” (www.melvinyuan.com/integrity) – something I will start once this week is over (we’re busy working on a new launch for The Commissioned).

All the above increased my capacity for mindfulness – and I became present to one thing – several times in the day, I looked for distractions. I had deleted the Facebook App from my phone, but I looked for it. I paused from critical project sprints, and found time in between meetings – to search for ‘something else to do’.

And I wonder – how much of our subconscious lives are driven – not by the emergence of distractions… but by the pursuit of it.
